Fancy Jewels, Dottyspeck & More

July 15th, 2009

Picture 9Fancy on second avenue in downtown Seattle has the corner market on playful dedication to the whimsical and cute. Owned and operated by Sally Brock, who has been designing jewelry since she was 13, the petite store carries the complete Fancy line (handmade in the USA by one lady with two hands), and fabulous local jewelry by independent artists.

Brock is the only woman I know who could write “Custom orders are available -any piece you see can be re-made just the way you like it, unless you’ve got bad taste, or maybe if you want your ring made of bacon and titanium.” and bring a smile to your face. Maybe it’s Leroy the labradoodle but we suspect it’s Sally’s charm.

The above images are from new batch of work from Seattle’s own- Dottyspeck (named after Pee-Wee Herman movies of course) in all sterling silver. Use your City Stimulus card on these, or other purchases, and receive 10% off, including custom orders & free gift with any purchase over $200.

World Spice Merchants

July 15th, 2009

When I’m feeling like making something obscure for dinner, or even just needing to restock my African Cayenne, I swing by World Spice Merchants.  Located just below the Pike Place Market on Western, this hidden gem is for local foodies in the know.  Other City Stimulators, like Dahlia Lounge, How to Cook a Wolf, and Palace Kitchen have already figured out what the rest of us are dying to know:  World Spice is the place to educate yourself and stock up on herbs, spices, teas, and gifts from around the culinary world.

World Spice is offering 10% off all their merchandise this week. If you need to stock your pepper mill or give dinner-at-home some pep, it may be a good idea to swing by.

Babeland

July 14th, 2009

I was lucky to move to Seattle after Babeland was born.  Before I got here, my girlfriends and I would stay up late at night, talking about the mythical place in far-away Seattle, where women could feel confident about their sexuality and explore “adult toys” in a really low pressure and informative setting.

Have I mentioned how much I love Babeland? This week I’ll have something extra to write home about. Babeland is offering an outstanding incentive for City Stimulus this week: 15% off Sunday-Thursday.  A free Silver Bullet with purchase Friday & Saturday.

Babeland has received numerous awards over the years, including a 2006 and 2003 Zagat’s Survey award. It was voted “Best Place to Buy Sex Toys” by The Village Voice and The Seattle Weekly.

Kimberly Baker Jewelry

July 13th, 2009

IMG_1395Picture 4It can be hard to find baubles that achieve the perfect mix of rock-n-roll, goth & sweet sophistication.

That is unless you’re lucky enough to live in Seattle and visit the one, and only, Kimberly Baker Jewelry flagship store in Fremont.

This little gem if a store on 36th (near Lambs Ear) houses ALL of the designers creations- from the necklaces worn by Gossip Girl stars Blake Lively and Leighton Meester to that ubercool wolfette ring Mary Kate in Nylon. Many creations are influenced by nature, which makes the powerful rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings subtlely soft.

Lucky City Stimulus cardholders will receive this limited edition Ana Perez designed t-shirt (regularly $42.00), made to commemorate the launch of Kimberly Baker Jewelry at PulpLab, with $100 purchase.

Lambs Ear Shoes

July 12th, 2009

Lambs EarOne of the only people I know who can rock a pair of sky high heels from morning until night’s end is Lambs Ear shoe store owner Angie Sorenson.

Sophisticated, stylish, chic – Fremont’s Lambs Ear is truly a product of Angie’s sensibility and her eye for the hottest shoes, handbags and jewelry. Every time I see her I want what she is wearing on her feet.

Picture 5Her store is a sliver of cool, artful design, and full of gorgeousness that Angie clearly puts her heart into.  Shoes for your girlish side from Loeffler Randall, for your tough girl side from the off-kilter, but killer LD Tuttle, or for your edgy, uber cool side from Parisian designer Surface to Air.

Trust me, you will have trouble choosing just who you want to be when using your City Stimulus card for additional 10% off sale items.

A Mano: an artful boutique

July 11th, 2009

A ManoWhen I think of shoes and artisan, I think of A Mano – a warm, comfortable, friendly shoe shop on First Avenue – downtown Seattle. (You’re inclined to call it a shop rather than a store because it feels like you’ve walked in off of a cobblestone alleyway in Italy.) Headed by the delightful Nealy Blau and stocked with shoes and handbags exuding old world craftsmanship which Nealy sources on her twice yearly excursions to Milan.

My personal obsessions are the to-die-for Fiorentini + Baker boots that I can’t seem to have enough of, as well as the n.d.c menswear style oxfords that all the cool girls are wearing. The additional 20% off all sale merchandise (excluding Jamie Joseph jewelry) certainly sweetens the deal.

*Not to be missed – Antipast socks from Japan and jewelry by local jewelry designer/jewelry goddess Jamie Joseph.
